CUSTOMIZE A SCHOOL PROGRAM
All school programs are customized to meet the unique needs of your school and range from ongoing, school-wide integration, to short workshops for teachers and parents.
Mindfulness at your school could include:
Whole-School Implementation: This wrap-around program may be the most effective way to integrate mindfulness into your school community. Train faculty, staff, students, and parents with ongoing, on-site support.
Faculty First: Support teachers with stress-reduction and self-care. Programs range from a morning of mindfulness basics to a yearlong, in-depth program.
Classroom Pilot: This teacher-friendly program may be the simplest way to begin. Introduce mindfulness with a pilot program in just one or two classrooms. Teachers learn alongside students with weekly 15-20 minute micro-lessons.
High School Elective: Bring a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens (MBSR-T) course to your school. This course could be offered to mixed grades by the quarter or the semester. We recommend offering mindfulness as an optional course. We’ve also had success allowing teachers to participate in the mindfulness elective alongside students.
Parent Support and Education: Help your parent body learn effective tools for bringing mindfulness into the home environment and managing stress. Parent education could include a single evening of mindfulness or ongoing support.
Program CONTENT May Include:
Basic Neuroscience of Mindfulness
Exteroceptive & Interoceptive Body Awareness
Mindfulness of Emotions
The Negativity Bias
Judgment and the Inner-Critic
Why Gratitude Matters
Mindfulness supports the social-emotional goals of many schools in the current educational environment. Both qualitative and quantitative measures will be used to measure the success of the program at your school. A growing body of research and neuroscience has shown the benefits of mindfulness to include:
Decreased stress & anxiety
Better focus and concentration
Improved impulse control
Skillful responses to difficult emotions
Increased empathy and understanding of others
Development of natural conflict resolution skills
Improved school climate
Improved instructional effectiveness
All school programs are offered on a sliding scale. Schools with a high number of students on assisted lunch qualify for the low end of the scale. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
